Our body changes throughout life: cells die and are restored. But with every decade they recover worse and worse. After 30 years, a person begins to lose 1–2% of muscle mass per year, even if he leads an active lifestyle. All tissues of the body suffer losses, thus, signs of age appear on the skin. We call it aging and we know that it cannot be stopped.
External signs of aging appear around age 25
Why signs of aging are visible on the skin:
- the fat layer decreases;
- bone mass decreases;
- connective tissue is destroyed.
Metabolism slows down in connective tissue. The building materials of our body are produced less and less: proteins (collagen and elastin) and polysaccharides (glycosaminoglycans). Roughly speaking, the aging process lies in the gradual loss of these components. What we can do? Just try to slow down aging. Often even improve the condition of the skin, rejuvenate it with the help of competent care.
How do essential oils for the face work against wrinkles?
In plants, essential oils participate in metabolic processes. The main components of esters - terpenoid and aromatic compounds - very quickly and actively enter into various chemical reactions inside cells. Active chemical reactions also occur when the ether comes into contact with human skin. Phenols, aldehydes, organic acids and alcohols in ether cause skin irritation, and blood flows faster to the place of contact with them. Thanks to this effect, compresses and applications with oil work. The higher the oil concentration and the longer the exposure, the more active the skin reaction.
Essential oils do not contain vitamins. The vitamin is retained either in water or in fats; there are no fats or water in the ester.
Using facial oil for wrinkles
When we need to treat fine lines and wrinkles, the options seem endless. Should you choose a cream or a lightweight anti-aging moisturizer? How about a vitamin C serum or acid gel?
Essential oils can't get rid of wrinkles, but they can help minimize them.
They can also:
- speed up collagen production
- improve skin tone
- even out complexion
- reduce inflammation
- increase epithelial cell turnover
- protect your skin from the environment
Which facial oil to choose for wrinkles instead of cream?
One of the most valuable components of skin oils is lipids (fats). They glue the horn cells (scales) together, creating a protective barrier that retains moisture. Also protects against the penetration of harmful microorganisms.
By applying it to the skin in its pure form, it seems to us that we are thereby strengthening this protective barrier, and the skin is saturated with moisture.
But the problem is that not a single vegetable oil contains a lipid ratio suitable for our dermis. When applied to the face, we immediately feel hydrated and comfortable due to the fact that it smooths out horny scales and softens. It also creates a film that retains moisture on the surface.
If we continue to apply it regularly, it will begin to penetrate deeper into the skin layer and erode our own lipids. Their ratio will begin to change, which will lead to the destruction of the lipid barrier. The skin will become even drier and flaky.
Therefore, in order to strengthen the lipid layer, it will be much more beneficial to consume fats internally.
But there is also good news. Thanks to their moisturizing and softening properties, vegetable fats are perfect for working with wrinkles, if you approach it wisely.
In combination with other components, they have a beneficial effect on the skin and smooth out fine wrinkles. Therefore, they are even recommended to be used in various mask recipes.
But so that the skin does not get used to it, the recipes need to be constantly changed. But more on that below. For the reasons mentioned above, it is not recommended to use it regularly in its pure form, so replacing it with daily care instead of a cream will not work, as it can cause severe harm.
For wrinkles, for the purpose of additional moisturizing and softening, it is used in its pure form only in case of emergency for a course of 1-2 weeks. This must be done while observing the following rules:
- Before applying, the face must be wet;
- the number of drops according to your skin type: dry 3-4 drops, normal 2-3, oily 1-2;
- after 15-20 minutes, blot the cover with a napkin, thus removing its excess;
- after use, be sure to apply moisturizer;
- Apply oil to the area around the eyes two hours before bedtime to avoid severe swelling.
An effective and safer option for using anti-wrinkle oil is to add a small amount of drops to various masks, the recipes for which are given below. In combination with other components for 20-30 minutes, such compositions will only bring benefits, provided that it is selected correctly (more on this later).
Anti-aging can be done 2-3 times a week. At the same time, to prevent the skin from getting used to it, it is recommended to change the composition of the masks once a month.
Which oil is right for you
If you have never used essential oil in your skin care routine, try the most neutral scents to start with, such as lavender. The main guideline in choosing an oil, of course, will be the condition of your skin, its type and existing imperfections that you want to eliminate. How to properly apply oil to your face: 3 ways
It can be applied in three ways:
In its pure form as whey (occasionally)
Before use, it must be warmed to a warm state, since it is more effective when warm. To do this, just hold a few drops (dry 3-4 drops, normal 2-3, oily 1-2) in a warm palm for a few seconds and can be applied with your fingers using a tapping motion, always on cleansed and damp skin. Leave for 15-20 minutes, then blot with a napkin to remove any residue. Be sure to apply moisturizer.
But remember that this method should be used only in emergency cases for a course of 1-2 weeks.
Compresses under the eyes
Heat some oil until warm by dipping the bottle in warm water. Then wet two cotton pads and apply to the area under the eyes. Leave for 15 minutes, then blot with a napkin.
This should be done no later than two hours before bedtime and also for a course of 1-2 weeks.
